JULY 2021

Pause For

This month of July, I have participated in two of our events, which are the two app related events, Pause For and Plastic Bites. I’ve had a good experience with both apps. Pause For helped me a lot in concentrating, especially during the summer with tons of distractions starting with my phone. I used the app for around 13 hours in total, which is more than the maximum hours needed because I actually find the app helpful and meaningful. Not only that I can take some time away from my phone, but at the same time I can earn food for another person in need. I can already imagine how I can use this in so many other ways.

Plastic Bites!

Eight million. Eight million tons of plastic pollute our oceans annually. These plastics release harmful chemicals into ecosystems which cause the organisms living in the ecosystems to get sick and die. Plastic Bites! is an application that donates ten percent of profits made through advertisements and in-app purchases to marine conservation organizations. In this application, users play as Olly the sea turtle to clean the ocean of pollution. Olly uses bolts of lightning to zap plastic out of the water and eats the jellyfish in the water to recharge. Key Club used this application to provide general members with an hour of community service for every sixty jellyfish collected. Members had the opportunity to gain six hours maximum for this service event due on July 30, 2021. Overall, Plastic Bites! was a very enjoyable and accessible community service for all general members to use. I would love to revisit this application in the future for more community service events.
